Reporting Fraud

You may report fraud, waste, abuse or mismanagement to the OIG Investigation group in several ways:

(1)  Fraud Hotline
(2)  Telephoning our offices
(3)  Providing letters or written correspondence
(4)  Communicating in person

The Fraud Hotline Program provides an effective and confidential way for employees to report significant instances of wrongdoing within Amtrak.  We want to know about employees who, for example, steal from the company, fail to protect company assets and/or commit other wrongdoings.  Inform us about vendors or third persons who provide Amtrak with inferior or substandard products or services, engage in kickbacks and bribes and/or double billing.  Also provide us information about systems or processes which are being mismanaged or abused.

Examples of what OIG investigates

  • Bid rigging
  • Embezzlement
  • Theft of Amtrak property
  • Bribery
  • Conducting an outside business using Company material on Company time
  • Health Care Fraud
  • Retaliation for OIG cooperation

Examples of what OIG does not investigate

  • For EEO Complaints, call (202) 906-3835 or ATS 777-3835
  • For Labor Relations, call (202) 906-2189 or ATS 777-2189
  • For Employee Relations, call (202) 906-2486 or ATS 777-2486
  • For Business Diversity, call (202) 906-3991 or ATS 777-3991
  • For Payroll Disputes, consult the local field payroll office (agreement covered)
          OR call (1) 877-268-7251 (for non-agreement covered)

When you witness or learn about a suspected fraudulent activity, you should act immediately!  Call the Hotline 24 hours a day at 1-800-468-5469 or contact us directly (see also Fraud Hotline).
